Michael Buble Keeps SD Classy

I already knew he was a great performer. But after writing a daily blog about Michael Buble for more than a year, I was hardly expecting something new from his concert on Friday, August 27 at the San Diego Sports Arena. Instead, as with many other nationwide tours, I expected to hear him cracking the same jokes, listen to the same setlist and catch some familiar dance moves. While a fragment of the nearly two hour show seemed like a vague memory of the reviews I had read over the past few months from his Crazy Love Tour, it kept it ‘classy’ in his Nordstrom swagger to introduce a completely new experience.

The second to last show in North America, the Canadian used his funny bone to crack jokes about audience members and the latest news on Tiger Woods’ scandal and play up San Diego’s sunny weather and the famous weatherman’s “stay classy” phrase. I knew he could perform – that was an afterthought, really – but the laughs were a welcome surprise (especially for my male counterpart). Favorites like “Home,” “Haven’t Met You Yet” and “Everything,” along with his standards, were all part of the scene as well. And of course, a bit of Michael Jackson.
