With the summer sun finally welcomed in San Diego, the Del Mar Races are in the final weeks of the season but remain strong. Open until September 8, according to reports the numbers are keeping the races strong. Much like last year, daily numbers remain in the $12 million range, a number similar to last year despite the crummy weather.

This past Saturday, the first weekend with the humidity high and sun shining, welcomed big name act Weezer. A newcomer to the summer concert series, the group played a short set up favorites for the massive group. Fans lined in front of the infield stage hours before the beer and fried goodies had run out to be the first to see the act. Rolling around the stage were the familiar faces of the “Beverly Hills” singers, until frontman Rivers Cuomo threw on a blond wig for a mixup of MGMT’s “Kids” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker.” Though it’s a familiar mashup for Weezer fans, who might have heard the number during the Colorado performance at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

But the summer concert shows aren’t over just yet. This next Friday, August 27 Super Diamond performers, followed by Saturday’s craft microbrew festival and local music showcase. On Friday, September 3 The English Beat will follow, and ZZ Top will close out the races on Saturday, September 4.
